Several facebook accounts belonging to journalists and social and political activists were blocked during post-Easter Sunday attacks period and the trend still continues.

In July 2019, facebook accounts belonging to artist Wimal Ketapearachchi, Editor of Lankanewsweb: Ruwan Nelu, blogger and writer: Sujith Annamale, and other activists such as Priyantha Jayawardane, Subhaga B Herath were blocked.
