On 30th August 2022, a press conference to condemn the police violence organized by a group of trade Unionists and some activists was disrupted by the police. Police officers with uniforms and plainclothes stormed to the Centre for Society & Religion in Colombo where the press conference was held. Police claimed that they were searching for the National Organiser of Youth for Change, Lahiru Weerasekara, former student leader who was strongly involved with the anti-government protests.
