Description

The secretary to the Ministry of Finance and treasuries has informed the NEC about difficulties
in providing necessary funds for the local government election due to the current economic
crisis. The chairperson of the Election commission has been informed of this, during a meeting
held with the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and other officials at the Election
Commission on 17th February. The Secretary has emphasised that funds could be only
allocated for maintaining essential services list, as instructed by the circular issued on 02nd
February. And the approval of the President Wickremasinghe in the capacity of Finance
Minister should be obtained for releasing the funds.
