Last year, an active member of Aragayala Piyath Nikeshala was brutally attacked by the Former Deputy Mayor of the Kaduwela Municipal Council, Chandika Abeyratne, on 10th. Piyath was able to record the video,and it showed the mayor had crossed his vehicle towards the Piyath vehicles, got off it, hit the Piyath, and forcibly grabbed the Piyath mobile phone and assaulted it. Piyath was admitted to the Nation Hospital in Colombo with injuries. The assault took place in the Koswatta Samagi Mawatha area, where the Piyath Nikeshala resident lives. The former Deputy Mayor has been admitted to the Mulleriyawa Hospital and has logged the complaint that Piyath Nikeshala attempted to endanger him while he was travelling from Koswatta to Malabe. Further, the Mayor said that Piyath scolded him by claiming he was an Argalaya Activist. Piyath Nikeshala and Deputy Mayor Chandika Abeyratne while they were both undergoing hospital treatment.
