Thusahn Gunwardena, the former Executive Director of the Consumer Affairs Authority who exposed the information on the Garlic scam relating to the government retail network Sathosa said he has been prevented from leaving Sri Lanka by immigration officials on 22nd January 2022. When he had arrived at the airport to travel to the US for business reasons, the immigration officials had detained and not allowed him to leave the country. According to immigration officers, he has been named as a suspect in the pending trial of garlic scam case filed at the Welisara magistrate court, though he has not been informed of such a designation being made against him
