Description
On 19th April 2022, residents of Rambukkana area protested against the fuel shortage and increasing price of the fuel, blocking the Kandy - Colombo main road and burned tyres there, while they also blocked the railway track for around 15 hours. Police have attacked the protestors with tear gas and then they have opened fire at the protestors killing one person and 11 injured. Police alleged that shooting was done as a group of protestors attempted to set fire to a fuel bowser. The Police curfew was imposed in the area following the incident.
