On 7th July 2022, the Fort police obtained a court order against a protest demonstration by a group of religious leaders planned to be held Olcott Mawatha, in Colombo city demanding the resignation of the President Rajapakse. Based on a request made by the Fort Police station alleging that the protest would obstruct the public, causing traffic, Colombo magistrate court issued an order preventing leaders of the protest from participating and organizing it. The order was issued against Venerable Pahiangala Ananda Sagara Thero, Convener of Surakimu Sri Lanka National Movement, Ven. Ulapanane Sungala Thero, President of the Teacher- Principal Union Alliance, Ven. Kalubowila Paduma Thero, Founder of Bhumi Mathru Manusath Foundation, and other people participating in the said protest.
