Police raids a church, in an attempt to arrest Rev. Fr. Jeevantha Peiris

On 27th July 2022 a special police team raided a church in Ratnapura searching for Fr. Amila Jeevantha Peiris, who was a prominent figure in the anti-government protest site GotaGoGama in Colombo. The police team who have searched for him have told the people at the church that they have received an order to arrest him on sight. However, when contacted by the journalists, Ratnapura Police denied that they had conducted such a raid. Two days before, on 25th July, Colombo Magistrate Court issued a travel ban against the priest and five other activists who took part in protests
