Protest march from North to East against Independence Day celebrations held despite Police obstructions

Protesters walked from Jaffna to Batticaloa for four days from 4th February to 7th February,
in protest of government Independence Day celebrations, and demanding to solve long
standing issues of Tamil People. The protesters called 75th Independence day of Sri Lanka,
a Black day for Tamils, and demanded justice for enforced disappearances, called for an
international investigation into human rights abuses during the civil war, release political
prisoners, repeal of Prevention of Terrorism Act, and return lands acquired by military etc.On 4th February, shops in Jaffna town were also closed in support of the protest. Police also videoed and photographed the protesters, a known tactic to intimidate protesters
as in some cases such footage have been used to take legal action against the protesters.
