Police fired tear gas and water at the University of Peradeniya student protest when the students attempted to march towards Kandy Town. On 23rd May student union of the university of Peradeniya organised a protest march against student activists oppression and for other reasons. Police used water cannons to disperse the University of Colombo medical students protest:
On 16th May Police fired tear gas and water against the University of Colombo Medical students. Medical students protested, demanding the medical degrees offered by the private universities. The protesters further claimed that the government was purposely attempting to destroy the free education and free healthcare sectors using different private institutions that have offered medical degrees and, in the meantime, owned the hospitals. Police have fired tear gas near Horton Place Colombo 07.
