An active member of Aragalaya- anti-government protests last year and social media activist Piyath Nikeshala was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department on 26th June as he had live streamed the protest in front of then Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe’s private residence in Colombo, when it was set fire by the protesters on 9thJuly 2022. Police arrested him, after he was summoned to record a statement. He was granted bail after appearing before the Colombo Magistrate on 27th June. The court also imposed an overseas travel ban on him.
