Description

On 21st August, a gazette notification was issued calling out the Armed Forces under the
powers granted under the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40). The gazette notification
provides powers for armed forces to intervene in civilian affairs. The Sri Lankan government
has been issuing similar monthly gazettes for several years now, indicating the increasing
militarization and shrinking civil space.
