In Mullaitivu, Sinhala builders were reportedly seen stepping up their construction work on the statue of Buddha, which began with the initial act of a Buddhist monk setting up a hut on the land said to belong to a Hindu temple. On January 19th, journalists who were at the construction site to document proceedings were photographed on mobile phones by the Sinhala construction workers
in an alleged attempt to intimidate them.
