Punniyamurthi Sasikaran, a journalist based in Batticaloa has been issued a restraining order by the Batticaloa Magistrate court preventing him from reporting a protest that the Police claimed to have organized against Sri Lanka’s National Independence day on 4th February. Police claimed that they had received intelligence information on a 12 hour protest march being organized, however the journalists were not aware of such a protest. Last year Sasikaran was interrogated for allegedly involving in a protest for remembering Indian fisher persons who died in the sea.
