On 9th February, Selvakumar Nilanthan, a media rights activist and a journalist based in Batticaloa was interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) attached to Eravur Police Station for two hours. Nilanthan is the Secretary of Batticaloa District Tamil journalists association and the Batticaloa press club. Police Officers have visited his residence twice on 7th and 8th Feb asking him to be present at the interrogation. During the Interrogation, the officers questioned him whether he received funding from the Tamil Diaspora and whether he is a former LTTE rebel. Previously Nilanthan was questioned for three hours and the Police have demanded his logging details for Social media accounts and bank accounts.
