The Batticaloa Magistrate court has banned the commemoration event that was planned to mark the death of Annai Poopathy, the woman who went on a hunger strike against the atrocities committed by Indian Peace Keeping Forces (IPKF) and died. The Tamil National People's Front (TNPF) received the notice from the Batticaloa Magistrate Court informing the party that all commemorative events that it planned would be banned. This ban was ordered on 18th April 2022
