ational Organizer of the Samaghi Vanitha Balawegaya (SVB), Former Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra and 11 others were arrested by the Police for staging a protest opposite the president’s house in Colombo on 06th July 2022. The group of people accompanied by Hirunika Premachandra and former chairperson of the Weligama Urban Council Rehan jayawickrama staged the protest to show their displeasure over the hardships that are faced by the public due to the economic crisis and demanded the resignation of the president. When they have attempted to enter the President’s house, the security officers have not allowed them. Then they sat at the entrance of the President’s house, and started the protest. The security officers have not allowed the journalists who tried to come there to report the event. Later, the group of protesters were arrested and granted bail on the same day.
