The secretary and president of Student Union of the University of Jaffna were arrested on 3rd May. It has been reported that Police have conducted a search operation around 4 am in the morning at the university hostel before the arrest; and they have found a pair of binoculars, a pair of boots, and a poster of slain LTTE leader Prabakaran at the room where the secretary and president of student union stayed.40 Subsequently the two students have been arrested. According to Tamil Guardian website, Police has sought the orders from the defense ministry in order to detain and investigate them under the Prevention of terrorism act (PTA).
