Rideemaliyadda Traders Association and Three Wheelers Association organised an anti government protest on 28th April 2022. There has been a tense situation after a group of mobs led by Rideemaliyadda Pradeshiya Sabha chairperson Nishantha Jayasundara had assaulted an anti-government protester. The incident occurred when one of the protesters went to question Pradeshiya Sabha chairperson after the protest ended. A tense situation arose following the incident, as the protesters surrounded the Rideemaliyadda Pradeshiya Sabha office premises, demanding to arrest the chairperson. Two protesters subjected to physical attack have been hospitalised at Rideemaliyadda Uraniya Regional Hospital. The chairperson who has been stuck at the office premises has been saved by the Police.
