The Colombo Fort Police Station has requested from the Colombo Magistrate Court to issue an order halting the protests scheduled to be conducted in front of the Fort Railway Station on 24th April 2022 by the Inter University Student federation and Inter University Bhikku Federation on 23rd April 2022. The Colombo Additional Magistrate T. Prabhakaran has refused to process such an order saying he could not issue any orders to prevent a protest from taking place in the future and directed the police to use their police powers if the protesters engaged in a manner that would harass the public or damage state property. The Fort police informed the magistrate that they have received intelligence information that there is a risk of protestors forcibly entering leading government institutions and official residences in the area and requested the court to issue this order to prevent it.
